Andrew Ian Dodge on Federal Reserve Audit

The issue of a Federal Reserve audit is becoming a bigger issue in the mainstream, due to a number of factors. The one to break the issue through into politics was Congressman Ron Paul, who twice ran for the Republican nomination for President in the last four years, and has made the Federal Reserve a central focus of his. In Congress, he has regularly introduced legislation to either end or audit the system. The libertarian-leaning conservative, who once ran for President as a Libertarian in 1988, has led a charge into mainstream political discourse. Even here in Maine, people are starting to catch on and discuss this issue. U.S. Senator Susan Collins has co-sponsored “The Federal Transparency Act”, joining a number of Republicans behind Congressman Paul’s son, Senator Rand Paul, who introduced the legislation in the Senate. Now, a Libertarian candidate for retiring Senator Olympia Snowe’s seat hopes to join Senator Collins in the fight to audit the Federal Reserve.

Andrew Ian Dodge is the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate in a heated race that includes popular former Governor Angus King running as an Independent, surging Republican candidate Charlie Summers, and Democratic State Senator Cynthia Dill. Covered in two previous articles, “Angus King Opposes Federal Reserve Audit”, “Angus King Clarifies Opposition To Fed Transparency”, it was noted that King has gone on the record opposing a Federal Reserve audit. Using typical establishment lines in defense of secrecy, King claims that transparency would “politicize” the system.

Dodge feels otherwise however. In fact, he supports the legislation in the U.S. Senate and believes a full audit should be made. The former Republican, who was the only real Independent in the race before joining the Libertarian Party, also stated he was not surprised King opposes the Federal Reserve.

“We need an immediate independent audit of the Federal Reserve to examine their recent actions. Their role in our economy is too vital to have their actions completely hidden,” Andrew Ian Dodge said. “It is of the utmost importance to future of our nation this happens ASAP.”

The Libertarian Party itself in its platform, while not taking a specific position on the fiat currency system, touches upon a related topic, stated:

We favor free-market banking, with unrestricted competition among banks and depository institutions of all types. Individuals engaged in voluntary exchange should be free to use as money any mutually agreeable commodity or item. We support a halt to inflationary monetary policies and unconstitutional legal tender laws.

Freedom itself is such a difficult topic to discuss in mainstream politics, because many view less regulations as being beneficial to big business interests, bankers, etc. Any understanding of economics however shows that banking interests are benefiting greatly off our present system, which allows for the Federal Reserve to operate in complete secrecy and wield great power over the economy via market manipulation. Large businesses also have profited from bailouts, which are made possible by the “easy money” printing presses at this secret banking cartel. The result of this is the hard-earned money of the people becomes worth less. Alongside this unfavorable effect, market prices adjust to the increased money supply. Prices go up on goods across the board, while wages often remain the same, or even decrease. We then have a larger price-wage gap, but Angus King doesn’t care.

“I am not surprised Angus King is against this,” Dodge continued. “He is quite happy with the current state of Federal programs which have allowed people like him to get rich off corrupt ineffective subsidy programs that gouge the taxpayer and make the well connected very rich.”

It has become clear that the leader of the U.S. Senate race to replace retiring U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe does not favor transparency and is no friend of everyday Mainers. Dodge, however, represents a direct contrast to King. He supports a federal reserve audit. Unlike King, Dodge would be a U.S. Senator of the people, not the elite.
