Governor LePage’s daughter joins Trump campaign as Coalitions Director

In a press release that just went out from the Maine Republican Party, the Donald Trump presidential campaign has announced two new additions to the campaign team. The Maine campaign, which is currently run by Christie-Lee McNally, announced the new Deputy State Director and Coalitions Director.

Leland Graves has been named the new Deputy State Director. According to the press release, he has worked on various campaigns for Maine State Senate Republicans and was named to the Maine Republican Party’s “40 under 40” list in 2015.

Lauren LePage has been named the Coalitions Director.

LePage, daughter of Maine’s controversial Republican governor, has previously worked for her father’s office and was Executive Director of Maine People Before Politics.

Lauren LePage also made a name for herself when she spammed people’s voicemails during the nasty budget fight among Republicans. Because some Republicans, notably those in the State Senate, opposed raising the sales tax, she fired out robocalls against fellow Republicans. Constituents’ voicemails were full of this political spam on their voicemail.

Given the things that Lauren did while her father was trying to raise the sales tax, this is somewhat of a surprise.

But given that she is the daughter of Governor Paul LePage, the top elected Republican in the state and a Donald Trump supporter, this is no surprise at all.

Given a recent visit by the controversial Republican nominee himself, this expansion of the team reflects a focus on Maine by the Trump campaign. How will Donald Trump do in Maine in November?

“We have assembled a strong team of campaign staffers that is committed to building the grassroots enthusiasm that we saw in the primary that will turn out the votes that we need to win Maine in November,” Trump campaign State Director Christie-Lee McNally is quoted as saying in the press release. “The Trump-Pence Maine team and the Maine GOP will be working with volunteers all across Maine to take Mr. Trump’s message directly to all Mainers”

Can Donald Trump win Maine? What impact will Graves and LePage have on the future of Trump’s efforts in Maine?
